The Dress Code: “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” it will be gilded glamour, white tie – and that it was! A dazzling procession of the Hollywood elite, dressed to impress and redefine fashion as we know it. A-Listers including the Kardashian Jenner family, Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, Hailey Bieber, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Cardi B, Joe Jonas, Gigi Hadid, and Olivia Rodrigo graced the legendary stairs of The Metropolitan Museum of Art for this year’s 2022 Met Gala event.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, Khloe Kardashian, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Dove Cameron finally walked the line in their glorious debut. Well-known influencers Addison Rae and Emma Chamberlin were also among the selected few who received the coveted invites.
Even though we just can’t get enough of the fanciful fashion, the glam element plays the most significant part in the overall aesthetic for some of our most beloved celebrities, and this year we saw it all! Glimpses of nearly every ’90s beauty look were revived into modern times including some of our favourite brow trends and we can’t wait to share them with you.
Kendall Jenner
First things first, the toast of beauty town, Kendall Jenner, leading the way with the boldest of brow looks – the bleached brow. If anybody could have pulled off this nod to the 90’s trend, it’s this top model. Jenner made a bold statement by disguising her brunette brows and opting for the bleached brow look to accentuate her dark sultry features and gorgeous Prada gown.
This brow couture move has made a huge splash in the beauty world following the Met Gala and we are here for it! The bleached blonde trend, originally prominent in the early 90s has been back on the scene for a few months. It has so far received the tick of approval from Hollywood A-listers such as Lizzo and even big sister Kim Kardashian.
Harpers Bazaar has shared that ‘make-up artist Mary Phillips brushed through her bleached arches with Brow Gel to set the bleached hairs in place.’ The finished makeup look gives a modern gothic vibe and an edge to the otherwise modest Kendall.
Steal her style: Bleaching your brows can feel rather scary, so we do recommend booking an appointment with a professional brow stylist to ensure good work and a professional touch. To set those beautiful blonde brows in place we love Brow Code’s Alias Brow Gel. Simply flick through the brow to set the hairs in place and obsess over the all-day hold!
Olivia Rodrigo
Vogue described this A-Lister’s appearance ‘as if she stepped out of a dream.’ In a lilac mesh Versace dress, the butterfly bedazzled Olivia exuded the grandeur of the 1920s with a contemporary edge. Her makeup artist Lilly Keys wanted to achieve ‘that dreamy, glamorous silent film era vision,’ and didn’t she do just that! Gesturing to brows of the ’20s and Y2K, Rodrigo wore slightly thinned arches to frame her gorgeous face.
Rodrigo’s brows - brushed down to appear slimmer and longer are the smartest answer we’ve seen to the comeback of the thin brow trend! Ladies step away from that wax! If anyone can resurrect this brow trend it’s Olivia for sure!
Steal her style: To try the thin brow trend we recommend the ‘fake it till you make it’ approach. Using Brow Code’s Imitations Micro Pencil, brush the front of your brows upwards and then sideways towards the tail. Depending on the length of your brow hair, you can also brush slightly downwards to help create a thinner brow look. Pencil in from the middle of the brow to the tail to create a slim and streamlined effect.
Cardi B
No one followed the code better than our girl, Cardi B, strutting the red carpet with designer Donatella Versace in a gown made from almost a kilometer of gilded gold chains and Versace Medusa medallions. Like, come on! A press release from the Fashion House states ‘the creation required 20 members of its atelier hand stitch the lengths of links onto a tulle gown, a process that took 1300 hours to complete.’
Pairing her exquisite couture with a cool brown 90s lip and a soft smoky brow, Cardi glowed from head to toe on the velvet stairs of the Met Gala 2022, proving that the 90s continue to serve up the beauty inspo. Her dramatic eye look and chiseled contour, a work of pure art by makeup artist Erika La Pearl, stood out even more so with the paired back and smoky brow for the night of nights.
Steal her style: To copy and paste this soft smoky brow, go no further than Brow Code’s Creamades Brow Pomade. The best brow pomade on the market, its creamy and buildable formula allows you to easily outline your brow and fill in as you go. Apply lightly with the 123 Micro brush for the best results and use the spoolie at the end to blend out the pomade across the brow line to recreate Cardi’s iconic brow style.
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish, our Queen of comfortable clothing, dazzled at this year’s Met Gala in a vintage-inspired Gucci corset dress, detailed with an on-theme hint of dramatic glamour. According to Vogue ‘the performer embodied the sensuality of Regency-era fashion.’ On the carpet, Billie mentioned that her Gucci ensemble was made from recycled materials, for minimal impact on the environment, a cause we know to be close to her heart.
In contrast to the Gilded Glamour theme, Eilish went in more of a gothic direction from the neck up wearing her black hair in a tousled updo. Favouring a soft but dramatic glam for the evening, we loved the sleek black wing liner over soft pink eyes. Framing her face with brows forever, Billie wore a fluffy but filled looked and we are obsessed!
Steal her style: Something about Billie’s brows at the Met Gala this year screamed Victorian Era. We are obsessed with the groomed styling of her natural brows for this event! We recommend tinting your brows first with Brow Code’s Brow Tint Kit in your preferred shade. Then go in with the Alias Brow Lamination Gel or Heist Brow Soap to brush through and style in place.
Hailey Bieber
One of the most flattering kinds of flattery is the double-take – and that we did as Hailey Bieber strode out for the Met Gala 2022. Headlines across the globe boasted of Bieber’s minimalist beauty look and her effervescent natural glow. Echoing the clean lines of her floor-length Saint Laurent gown, Hailey’s evening glam accented every feature of the iconic model’s natural beauty as she kept it subtle yet elegant.
But how did she achieve such a stunning barely-there effect? Architect and creator of this flawless glam, make-up artist Nina Park spilled her secrets on Instagram last week (many of them Chanel-based). The thing we can’t get over?! The brows are outlined and filled with only one product. The humble brow pencil! It goes to show what one good brow product in your beauty arsenal can do for your face. Ladies and Gentlefolk – we give you the power of the pencil!
Steal her style: To recreate this timeless brow glam, look no further than the Imitations Micro Brow Pencil. Outline the base of your brow and flick the pencil lightly throughout always blending through as you work. Finish by brushing the brow slightly upwards and in an angled direction to style into place. Perfect for everyday wear or to make a natural, but elegant statement.
